This study is a milestone in making philanthropic practice more inclusive and closer to those it serves. It includes a survey of 40 European philanthropic organisations, examining their investment in children and young people and their involvement in decision-making about programmes and grants. Additionally, it features in-depth case studies of 11 organisations, highlighting the diverse nature of institutional philanthropy. These foundations operate both locally and internationally, demonstrating that any foundation can engage in child and youth participation. The case studies, based on interviews, reveal the motivations, processes, learnings, outcomes, and obstacles encountered in engaging children directly.
