The paper, presented at the L4WB Community Day, examines how holistic principles can shape goals for childhood, encompassing health, social services, youth policy, culture, ECEC, and school education. There is broad support among educators, researchers, and some policy-makers for holistic education to foster deep learning and children’s well-being, but its practical implementation is questioned. The paper explores whether European policies for ECEC and school education reflect these principles, ensuring coherence and continuity in promoting each child’s unique potential. The Foundation commissioned this work to stimulate discussions on enhancing competent systems that align with these holistic values.
